Android Nougat : When will Moto E, Moto G, Moto X and Moto Z Recieve Update?

by TDC TeamJuly 2, 2016

This week it was officially announces by Google that the next nomenclature for Android N i.e. Android 7.0 will be called Android Nougat. Now the eye of Android consumers is on the news whether their device will get an update to Android Nougat or not.

Like always, the first series of updates will be available for Nexus Series devices. These updates are expected to available from August 2016 and most of the Nexus devices will receive this as a push-update by on-the-air method.

Focusing on Moto series devices which is now owned under flagship of Lenovo, last times Moto series devices including Moto E, Moto G and Moto X were the first ones to get Android Marshmallow. Though, at that point Moto was owned by Google. However, they received a very clean update which was without any bloatware. This proved out to be a decent strategy as Moto devices got a good response from market.

List of Moto Devices to Receive Android Nougat Update

From the conversation that we had with Moto customer support, below are the G Series devices which will surely be updated to Android Nougat:

  • Moto G – 3rd Generation.
  • Moto G – 4th Gen Devices including Moto G4, Moto G4 Plus and Moto G4 Play.

Moto G 2nd Generation might not receive an update because it is out of the obligatory 18 month upgrade support. Similar would be case for Moto G first gen devices.

Android Nougat - Moto

For Moto Z series, all the devices will be receiving an official update to Android Nougat. This would include Moto Z Droid and Moto Z Power Droid.

In Moto X Series, Moto X Force, X Play and X Style will receive an update to Android Nougat as early as Oct 2016. Moto X 2nd Gen is also expected to get an update but its chances are low.

For Moto E Series, only Moto E third-generation devices will receive an update but this will be in late December this year.

So most of the 3rd and 4th gen Moto series devices will receive an update. We also in conversation with Moto partner channels to get a confirm list of upgradable devices.
